Jackets Fall To Wildcats

Bryan Adams scored 15 points at Louisiana College

Box Score PINEVILLE, Louisiana – Louisiana College shot 66% from the field in the second half to defeat the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets 88-82 Thursday evening in conference play.

For the game, Howard Payne would shoot 53% from the field, but it was Louisiana College's 66.7% shooting that allowed them to outscore HPU 56-49 in the second period.

The Yellow Jackets would hold a 33-32 halftime advantage. The Jackets held the Wildcats to just 33% shooting in the opening period.

Howard Payne would gain their largest lead of the game, 43-36, with 17:04 remaining in the game. Louisiana College then took the lead 7:38 to play but the Jackets would stay within striking distance.

Howard Payne would pull with two, 82-80, with :35 seconds remaining in the game on a layup by Brandon Gould. After two LC free-throws, the Jackets turned the ball over and went on to lose 88-82. LC hit 6 of 6 free-throws in the closing seconds to secure the win.

Brandon Gould finished with a game high 30 points along with six rebounds and six assists. Gould was 15 of 19 from the free-throw line. Donovan Ford followed with 17 and Bryan Adams added 15. Christian Davis had 12 points and Jordan Young had five assists.

LC was led by Anthony Gaines with 24 points. Kevin Cottonham had 22 points and a game high 10 assists. Kevin Lewis had 19 points and Steve Evans grabbed a game high 11 rebounds.

Howard Payne is now 3-9 overall and 3-6 in conference. LC stands at 5-4 overall and 5-2 in ASC play. The Yellow Jackets will play Mississippi College on Saturday in Clinton, Miss at 3:00 pm.
