Jackets Fall At LeTourneau

Box Score LONGVIEW, Texas – The Howard Payne men's basketball team was eliminated from an American Southwest Conference playoff spot with a 64-61 loss to LeTourneau University Thursday evening at Solheim Arena.

LeTourneau hit a three-point bucket with 18 seconds remaining to take the lead for good 64-61. The Jackets would have two attempts to tie the game but both did not connect and Howard Payne picked up their 19th loss of the year.

Down 32-31 at the break, the Jackets traded leads with LeTourneau several times in the second half. HPU shot just 33% from the field in the game while LeTourneau was a 48% from the field.

Brandon Gould led HPU with 22 points and eight rebounds. Gould was 7 of 7 from the free-throw line. Quelan Lancaster followed with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Donovan Ford added 11 points off the bench for the Jackets.

LeTourneau was led by Justin Jones with a game high 32 points and 14 rebounds. No other LeTourneau players were in double digits.

Howard Payne falls to 5-20 overall and 5-17 in conference action. LeTourneau stands at 5-14 overall and 4-12 in ASC play. The Lady Jackets will finish out the regular season this Saturday at East Texas Baptist at 3:00 pm.
