WTENN Nipped By UTD 5-4

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne women's team narrowly falls to conference opponent University of Texas at Dallas 5-4 Friday afternoon at the Nabers Tennis Center.

UT-Dallas would hold a 2-1 advantage after taking the number one and two doubles 8-0 and 8-5. Howard Payne picked up the number three double by default.

With the Lady Jackets needing four singles points to take the match, Howard Payne would only pick three.

In number three singles, HPU's Samantha Guerrero defeated Jean-Jean Gwo of UTD 7-6 (7-1), 4-1, retired. Whitney Turnacliff defeated Katie Purdum  of UTD 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) in number four singles. Devin Mendelson would win by default in the number six singles spot.

Howard Payne is now 0-3 on the year and will play next on Saturday versus Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas at 2:00 pm.
