Softball Loses DH At UMHB

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BELTON, Texas – The Howard Payne softball team dropped a conference double header 2-1 and 4-1 at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon.

In game one, Mary Hardin-Baylor held a 2-0 lead after scoring single runs in the third and fifth innings.

The Lady Jackets would pull within one in the seventh when Tayler Rushing singled to bring home Amanda Cruddas.

Adrienne Sanchez got the loss for HPU throwing five innings and giving up two runs on three hits. Shandi Winstead was 2-for3 from the plate for the Lady Jackets.

In game two, UMHB would get all their runs in the first innings scoring two runs in each frame. In the third, Pricilla Patino would single home Jessica Morales to pull the Lady Jackets within three.

Amanda Cruddas was 2-for-3 from the plate for HPU. Morgan Ashmore got the loss for HPU giving up four runs on three hits.

Howard Payne is now 2-8 overall and UMHB stands at 4-5 overall. Howard Payne will play next weekend at home versus East Texas Baptist, a double header on Friday starting at 1:00 pm and a single game on Saturday at 12:00 noon.
