BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne women's tennis team picked up their first win of the season with an 8-1 defeat of East Texas Baptist University Saturday morning at the Nabers Tennis Center.

The Lady Jackets won all three doubles matches 8-6, 8-0 and 8-6. In number one doubles spot, Chesney Goza and Brittany Walker won 8-6. Samantha Guerrero and Whitney Turnacliff won 8-0 in number two doubles. Tiffany Bullock and Raven Gilbreath-Giron won 8-6 in number three double play.

Only Howard Payne newcomer Raven Gilbreath-Giron would fall in number six singles play 6-4, 7-6 (17-15). In the other tightly contested match, Tiffany Bullock defeated Shavonne Nuall of ETBU 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 in the number five singles spot.

Howard Payne now stands at 1-5 overall and ETBU is 1-5 overall. The Lady Jackets will play next on Monday at 12:00 noon versus LeTourneau University at the Nabers Tennis Center.
