Jacket Tennis Gets Win Over Lobos

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne men's tennis team picks up their first win of the year in a 5-4 victory over Sul Ross State University Friday afternoon in conference action at the Nabers Tennis Center.

The Jackets took two of three doubles matches to start the day with a 2-1 lead. In number two doubles, Jacob Carrillo and Daniel Warner defeated Dominic Lonoluski and Daniel Fraire of Sul Ross 8-5. Drew Lambert and Austin Upchurch defeated Victor Garcia and Alfred Olivo of SRSU 8-5 in number three doubles action.

In number one single play, HPU's Will Thomas won 6-1, 6-3. The Jackets got wins in number four end five singles to secure the 5-4 conference win.

Daniel Warner defeat Alfred Olivo of Sul Ross 7-5, 7-5 and Austin Upchurch defeated Victor Garcia 6-2, 6-2.

Howard Payne is now 1-9 overall and 1-4 in ASC action. Sul Ross State is 1-9 overall and 1-5 ASC play. The Jackets will have a road match on Saturday with Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton starting at 11:00 am.
