Lady Jackets Drop DH At HSU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ABILENE, Texas - The Howard Payne softball team fell 5-2 and 7-0 in a conference double header with Hardin-Simmons University Thursday afternoon at Ellis Field.

Howard Payne fell in game one 5-2 after Hardin-Simmons opened up a 5-0 advantage after four innings. The Lady Jackets were able to get single runs in the sixth and seventh to bring the score to the 5-2 final.

In the sixth, Morgan Ashmore singled to right field to score Tiffani San Miguel. Then it was Pricilla Patino in the seventh who reached on an error by the second baseman to allow Beth Mullins to score.

Tayler Rushing got the loss for HPU, Adrienne Sanchez and Morgan Ashmore saw time in relief for the Lady Jackets. Shandi Winstead was 2-for-3 from the plate.

In game two, Hardin-Simmons out hit Howard Payne 11-1. The Lady Jackets also committed three errors in the field to lead to a 7-0 decision for Hardin-Simmons. 

Rushing recorded the complete game loss for Howard Payne and Pricilla Patino got the only hit for the Lady Jackets.

The Lady Jackets are now 6-27 overall and 5-24 in conference. Hardin-Simmons stands at 20-14 overall and 17-12 in ASC play. The two teams will play a single game on Saturday starting at 12:00 noon. Howard Payne will then finish out their season at home versus Mississippi College next weekend.
