SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's basketball team lost 92-43 to D-I Texas State University in an exhibition game Monday evening at Strahan Coliseum.
Texas State jumped out to a 16-0 lead to start the game.
Khyce Randall would finally break the drought for Howard Payne on a layup with 14:32 left in the first half.
Texas State used 51% shooting in the first half to hold a 42-19 halftime advantage. The Jackets shot just 26% from the floor and committed 12 turnovers in the half.
After scoring just 19 in the first half, the Jackets would get 24 in the second. Texas State increased its output as well outscoring HPU 50-24 in the second half to post the 92-43 final score.
Howard Payne was led by
Evan Vaden with 10 points and five rebounds.
Khyce Randall followed with seven points. The Jackets were outrebounded 48-28 in the the game.
Emani Gant led Texas State with a game high 18 points along with seven rebounds. Courtney Julien had 14 points. KJ Malveau and Cameron Naylor each added 13 points apiece.
Howard Payne will play next on December 29th at D-I Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. It will be a 7:00 pm start time.
