BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne softball team won the final game of their three-contest series with Mary Hardin-Baylor in walkoff fashion Saturday afternoon at Lady Jacket Field.
Howard Payne capitalized on two errors by UMHB in the seventh scoring six runs. Kelly Kaake singled to right field after pinch hitting for Kodi Glosson.
Allison Eaton singled to left field then Gaby Muniz reached on an error by the third baseman; Erin McLeod reached on an error by third baseman as well to score Glosson who had re-entered to run. Kennedy Coffin doubled to right field to score Muniz and Eaton.
Cherita George hit a three-run walkoff homer to left field to give the Lady Jackets the 8-7 victory. It was George's first homerun as a Lady Jacket.
UMHB on the board first on a sacrifice fly in the top of the second inning. In the top of the third, UMHB's Vann hit a grand slam over the left field wall to score four, improving the their lead to 5-0. UMHBadded a second home run in the top of the fifth for a 6-0 lead before Howard Payne scored two in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the lead to four.
UMHB added another run in the top of the sixth with a fielder's choice RBI. UMHB led 7-2 before Howard Payne put together a six-run bottom of the ninth, including a three-RBI home run from
Kodi Glosson to secure the 8-7 win for the Yellow Jackets.
The Lady Jackets had eight runs on nine hits with three errors while UMHB totaled seven runs on eight hits with four errors.
Celese Tirres went five innings in the start for HPU.
Tayler Rushing threw the final two frames to pick up the win and improve to 2-1 on the year.

Allison Eaton each finished with two hits for HPU.
The Lady Jackets moved to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in conference play.The loss dropped UMHB to 3-2 on the season and 2-1 in league action. Howard Payne will play next weekend at nationally ranked East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas.
