MARSHALL, Texas - The Howard Payne softball team finished up their regular season with a 9-1 loss to #3 East Texas Baptist University Tuesday afternoon on the road.
Howard Payne tallied five hits in game three of the series, the most for the Lady Jackets against East Texas Baptist this year.
Sparked by two homeruns, ETBU built an early lead scoring six runs in the first and two in the second for the 8-0 advantage.The Lady Jackets would get on the board in the third inning. With one out,
Gaby Muniz would single to left field followed by an
Erin McLeod single through the left side. After an
Amanda Cruddas strikeout, senior
Shandi Winstead singled to left field to score Muniz from second.
Erin McLeod finished 2-for-3 from the plate for HPU.
Tayler Rushing got the loss in the start giving up eight runs on ten hits. She finishes the season 4-10.
Celese Tirres threw in relief allowing one run on six hits.
Cherita George,
Gaby Muniz and
Shandi Winstead would also record hits for HPU.
Howard Payne finishes the season at 10-27 overall and 6-23 in American Southwest Conference action. East Texas Baptist stands at 28-2 overall and 24-2 in league play.
