Box Score 2 RICHARDSON, Texas – The Howard Payne Lady Jackets dropped both matches during day one of the ASC Crossover event held on the campus of UT-Dallas. The Yellow Jackets fell 3-0 to UT-Tyler during the first match and also fell 3-0 in the second match vs. East Texas Baptist.
Game One: Howard Payne University fell in three sets vs. The University of Texas-Tyler in the first game of the ASC Crossover event (20-25, 17-25, 18-25.) The Yellow Jackets led the Patriots in service aces with five, but failed to find any rhythm on offense, getting outscored by a total of 51-37.
HPU also led UT-Tyler in blocks with eight, but were only able to register 24 kills and 23 assists throughout the match, dropping their record to 6-11 on the season.
Despite coming out and scoring the first three points of the match, Howard Payne trailed by as many as eight points, 21-13. They were able to rally back and come within two points, 22-20, before UT-Tyler pulled ahead and took the set, 25-20.
The Patriots took the second set 25-17 behind some strong play at the net, finishing the set with a .500 attack percentage. Despite the loss, the Jackets recorded their best offensive numbers of the match, registering nine kills and a .103 attack percentage.
The third set was all tied up at 11 apiece before UT-Tyler received some strong support from their front line. The Patriots surged ahead to take the 21-12 lead before the Lady Jacket would register a score again. They used that momentum to take the set and close out the game 3-0.
Zhartezia Bradley had nine kills to lead Howard Payne on the day and Cheyanne Lovelady had 19 assists and three service aces. Analisa Anzaldua had 11 digs and Callie Molloy added 10 digs in the loss.
Game Two: After about a five hour break, Howard Payne University took to the floor again to face East Texas Baptist University. Unable to spark their offense, the Lady Jackets fell in three sets, 3-0 to fall to 0-2 on the day.
Howard Payne was only able to muster 27 kills and 37 points while registering a negative attack percentage in two of the games three sets. They would end up losing 14-25, 23-25 and 14-25 to fall to 6-12 on the season and 3-7 in conference.
The Lady Jackets came out flat during the first set and fell behind 9-2 early. They came back and pulled within three points of the lead, 10-7 before the Tigers were able to pull away with the 25-14 victory. They registered a –.029 attack percentage while allowing ETBU to collect 13 kills and just three errors.
The second set was Howard Payne's best performance during the match. They pushed East Texas Baptist to a 25-23 result after exchanging points to start the match. However, the Tigers started to pull away to a 9-4 lead before the ladies were able to mount a comeback to finish the set.
East Texas Baptist came out and took the third set 25-14 to win the game while holding the Yellow Jackets to seven kills and eight errors. Howard Payne fell behind 13-4 early and were unable to pull themselves out of the hole.
Zhartezia Bradley and Shelbie Harry each had eight kills to lead the Lady Jackets while Cheyanne Lovelady added 19 assist to lead all players in the loss. Briana Williams had nine digs and Macy Maniscalo contributed three blocks.
