Last minute goal gives HPU the 1-0 victory

Darbi Frazier picked up her third game winning goal of the season

BROWNWOOD, Texas – Howard Payne University (4-9-1) received a second half goal from Darbi Frazier and the defense stood firm to earn a 1-0 victory over the University of the Ozarks (6-8-1) this afternoon. 

For Frazier, it was her third goal of the season and third game-winner. Jessica Swonger picked up the assist after the Yellow Jackets were able to place a beautiful ball in to the box that set up the game winning goal in the 87th minute. 

Nicole Goodwin starred in goal and picked up her third clean sheet of the season. Goodwin finished the match with seven saves after seeing a total of nine shots on goal to help Howard Payne collect their fourth victory. 

The Eagles started the game with a flurry of attacks, collecting four shots in the games first ten minutes. They would end the first half with a total of six shots.  

Howard Payne struck twice in the first half, with Darbi Frazier striking first with a kick that sailed wide left in the 27th minute. Shortly after, Taylor Bicknell had a shot on goal after a corner kick put her in scoring position. Her kick was saved by the Eagles goal keeper in the 31st minute. 

The Yellow Jackets came out in the second half with a sense of urgency and registered five shots in the period to put the pressure on the Ozarks defense. Dayane Gutierrez footed a ball in the 48th minute after some impressive ball movement from HPU but she was unable to sneak it past the goal keeper. 

Howard Payne would attack again in the 59th minute on a Rachel Crane shot that came after a corner kick from Dayane Gutierrez. The shot was saved but not too long after, Tyla Tipton would also strike in the 65th minute to keep the pressure on the Eagles defense. 

The Yellow Jacket defense stood strong and allowed the team to stay in the game until the waning minutes when Darbi Frazier picked up the game-winning goal. 

Howard Payne ended the day with seven shots and five shots on goal while seeing 12 shots and nine shots on goal from the Ozarks. 

The Yellow Jackets will now play host to the University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday, October 22nd at 1:00 p.m. All home games are free to attend but if you are unable to make it, live stats are available at www.HPUSports.com.
