Box Score BROWNWOOD, Texas – Down 0-2 in the game, Howard Payne University won the final three sets to take the match 3-2 against Concordia on Friday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.
The Lady Jackets came out flat offensively, dropping the first two sets, 23-25 and 18-25 but showed some fight and came out and took the third set, 25-16. They used that momentum to sweep the next two sets, 26-24 and 15-11 and finish the game up 3-2.
Howard Payne actually came out and led Concordia in the first set 4-0 before the Tornados started their comeback. They used a series of service aces and some strong play from their frontline to take the set.
The Tornados continued their strong play during the second set, leading by as much as four points before the Lady Jackets were able to tie the game back up at 7-7. The set was largely back and forth until Concordia was able to collect three straight kills to close out the set.
The Jackets went up 8-1 in the opening of the third set and used some strong play from Zhartezia Bradley to never look back. The Tornado's kept on fighting and played strong for the rest of the match but Howard Payne was able to take the next two sets and get the victory.
It was the second straight win for Howard Payne and their fifth win in seven games. Shelbie Harry led all players with 17 kills while Zhartezia Bradley added 16 kills. Cheyanne Lovelady had 46 assists and Analisa Anzaldua added 26 digs in the victory.
Next up for Howard Payne is another home contest at the Brownwood Coliseum tomorrow, Saturday the 8th at 2:00 pm. They will play host to University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at the Brownwood Coliseum and all volleyball games are free to attend.
