SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Howard Payne University's men's basketball team reeled off a 21-3 run over the games final minutes to come away with a 66-65 victory over D-II Eastern New Mexico on Saturday night at Stephens Arena during the Ed Messbarger Classic.

Freshmen Isiah Herrera hit a buzzer beater with one second remaining on the clock to give the Yellow Jackets a 66-65 win over the Greyhounds (1-3.) Herrera's shot capped a 20 point performance with 14 points coming in the second half when Howard Payne needed them the most.

The Jackets trailed by 16 points, 53-37, with just over 11 minutes left to play when they began a 21-3 run that ended with Herrera's jumper and Howard Payne's first victory of the season.

Khyce Randall had 15 points while going 7-8 from the free throw line and Shadd Cole added 11 points as the Yellow Jackets came from behind to give the Greyhounds their third straight loss to start the season.

Howard Payne trailed the game 5-7 early but took their first lead after Isiah Herrera sunk a three pointer to give them an 8-7 lead. The two teams traded baskets the rest of the half until ENMU took a 34-32 lead into halftime.

The Yellow Jackets came out slow after the half and fell behind early, 42-34 as the Greyhounds were able to create some contact and convert on the free throw line. After a media timeout, they kept the pressure on Howard Payne and extended their lead to 53-37 with 11 minutes left in the game.

Khyce Randall and Isiah Herrera helped spark the comeback from 16 points down to escape with the win. The Yellow Jackets were able to battle back and with the final possession of the game, Herrera stepped up and made a big shot to deliver Howard Payne the clutch victory.
