SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's basketball team fell 91-61 against the University of the Incarnate Word in a game that was televised nationally for fans to view through ESPN3 on Monday evening.

J Bailey led all players with 10 rebounds while also scoring eight points and Rickey Guillory finished with a team-high 14 points as the Jackets dropped their second contest of the season, 91-61 at Incarnate Word.
The Cardinals (2-1) only previous loss came against the University of Texas in a season-opening 78-73 contest. They came out strong to start the game and held Howard Payne (1-2) to 34% shooting from the field and 5-19 from behind the arc.
After falling behind to start the game, Howard Payne came within seven points of UIW, 25-18 with 7:13 left in the half. However, the Cardinal defense stood tall and allowed them to pull away with a 41-28 lead heading into halftime.
It was all Incarnate Word to begin the second half, pulling away with a 53-31 lead before a
Rickey Guillory three-pointer with 16:07 left in the half broke the scoring drought. But the Cardinal offense continued to score and pulled away with a 20 point lead with 12 minutes left to go in the game.
The Yellow Jacket defense stood tough and ended up outrebounding UIW 41-36 but couldn't keep the Cardinals offense off the board. Incarnate Word finished the game shooting 56% from the field and 52% from the three point line.
The Jackets will now take a break for the Thanksgiving holiday before heading to Abilene to face Abilene Christian University. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 pm on November 27th and live stats and video can be obtained through HPUSports.com.
