Lady Jackets Lose 3-0,Play Next Fri. at Noon

Box Score BELTON, Texas – The Howard Payne University volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-9,25-10,26-24) to the University of Texas at Tyler in the first round of the 2016 American Southwest Conference Volleyball Championship. Lady Jackets pl East Texas Baptist on Friday at noon.

The Lady Jackets could not get the offense going in the first two sets falling 25-9 and 25-10. Howard Payne had a .037 attack pct. in the first two sets while UT Tyler averaged above .500 for its first two sets.

HPU buckled down for a much more competitive third set with the Lady Jackets raising their attack pct to .171. The Lady Jackets were up 24-22 in the third set and gave up four straight points dropping the set 26-24 and the match 3-0.

Shelbie Harry led HPU with seven kills and a .286 attack pct. Zhartezia Bradley followed with six kills and a .417 pct. Cheyanne Lovelady had 22 assists with five digs. Analisa Anzaldua had a team high 10 digs.

UT Tyler was led by Loren Guerra with 11 kills. Rebecca Floyd had 23 assists and Emily led with 23 digs.

Howard Payne is now 11-15 overall and UT Tyler stands at 18-7 on the year. The Lady Jackets will play next against East Texas Baptist on Friday at 12:00 noon in an elimination game.
