Lady Jackets Drop DH To Patriots

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team fell 10-1 and 14-0 to top ranked University of Texas at Tyler Friday afternoon in conference action at Lady Jacket Field.

Game one remained close till the final frames when UT-Tyler scored three in the sixth and four in the seventh to gain a 10-0 advantage.

The Lady Jackets would break up the possible Patriot no hitter and shutout scoring one run in the bottom of the seventh.

Rachel Hitt started Howard Payne's final at bat with a bunt single. Two HPU ground outs pushed Hitt to third and with two outs an Allison Eaton single to the shortstop brought home Hitt from third.

Going the distance for the Lady Jackets, Celese Tirres got the loss in the start allowing 10 runs on 13 hits and striking out two.

Game two was all UT-Tyler as the Patriots took the game 14-0 in five innings sparked by a six-run third and four-run fifth.

Tayler Rushing recorded the loss throwing five innings. Alicia Tanguma went the final frame not allowing a hit.

Howard Payne is now 10-12 overall and 7-10 in American Southwest Conference action. #1 UT-Tyler stands at 19-2 overall and 11-0 in conference. Howard Payne and UT-Tyler will finish the weekend series on Saturday with a single game starting at 12:00 noon.
