BELTON, Texas – The Lady Jackets were on the road to face off against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday night. UMHB was coming off of three consecutive loses and they were intent not to let this match become the fourth.
After a strong first set, it looked like the Crusaders might cruise to victory. However, Howard Payne fought back in the final two sets to make it a match. The Jackets took UMHB to the limit but eventually dropped the match, 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25,22.)
In the second set, HPU had nine kills against UMHB's eight but were unable to take the set after a late rally. During the third set the Yellow Jackets had their best attack percentage but couldn't keep the Crusaders off of the board and they eventually failed to steal the momentum.
The Lady Jackets were led by Kailey Doering who finished with 9 kills and a .188 attack percentage.
Cheyanne Lovelady had 29 assists and two kills while Analisa Anzaldua added 18 digs in the loss.
