BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne Men's soccer team hosted the Tornados of Concordia at Citizens National Bank field today. After coming out quick and scoring the game's first goal in the 6th minute, The Jackets gave up seven unanswered goals and fell 7-1.
The Jackets came out with energy and looked poised to start the game on the right foot after
Tracer Moore took the ball and placed it in the back of the net during the 6th minute. However, some aggressive play led to the Tornados getting a penalty kick from the top of the box in the 11th minute.
The kick made its way past the Yellow Jacket goalkeeper and Concordia notched the score up at one apiece. But they didn't stop there. Before the end of the half, the Tornados would end up with more goals, taking a 4-1 lead into halftime.
After switching keepers at the half, the Yellow Jacket defense continued to face pressure. Concordia was able to get three more goals in the 66th, 83rd and 88th minutes to pull away with the 7-1 lead. It was a hole Howard Payne was unable to dig itself out of and the Tornados would win the match 7-1.
The Yellow Jackets received complete 90 minute performances from
Ryan Cook and
Roger Bonilla. Tracer Cook had three shots, two shots on goal and one goal in 80 minutes of game action while Reid Longabaugh had one goal assist.
Alex Sanchez and
Anthony Chavez each had two shots and
Dylan Person added one in the defeat. Nicholas Panameno saved one goal while facing 14 shots but the Jackets gave the Tornados four corner kicks and only received one in return.
Howard Payne will now face off against McMurray in an ASC road game on September 30th. Game time is slated for 4:30 pm and live stats will be provided on HPUSports.com. Fans can also catch live updates on Twitter by following @HPUMSoc
