DALLAS, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's tennis team took on Austin College, Dallas Baptist, and Southwestern College (KS) in a busy weekend of play Friday and Saturday.
The Jackets started the weekend playing in Sherman, Texas at non-conference opponent Austin College. Howard Payne fell 1-8 in the team match but HPU'sÂ

Gabe Benitez picked up their first doubles win of the spring season.
Torres and Benitez defeated Austin College's Chandler Livingston and Jordan Davis 9-8 in number one doubles play. HPU would drop the other doubles points 8-2 and 8-2.

On Saturday in Dallas, Texas, the Jackets played D-II Dallas Baptist University in the morning falling 0-9. Torres and Benitez were competitive again in number one doubles losing 8-4. HPU's
Gabe Benitez narrowly fell in number two singles play to Nick Gilmore of DBU 3-6, 6-1, 13-11.

In the afternoon, HPU took on Southwestern College (KS) falling 0-9. All three doubles matches were competitive with the Jackets losing 8-4, 8-2 and 8-5. All singles matchups were played in a pro set format. Torres and Benitez each fell in one and three singles play 8-4.
