AUSTIN, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's basketball team fell to 12-10 on the season with a 103-73 loss to Concordia University on Thursday evening.
De'Marcus Hurd led the Jackets with 20 points and
J Bailey finished with a double-double, 12 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
Khyce Randall added 12 points and four assists but Howard Payne was unable to overcome a deep and talented Tornado's squad.
The Jackets exchanged baskets with Concordia for the majority of the first half, at one point tying it up at 20-20 apiece with eight minutes left in the half. The Tornados were only able to pull ahead late in the half when they sunk two consecutive three-pointers to end the half with a 47-34 lead.
De'Marcus Hurd started off the second half with a jumper and
David Dingle got to the foul line to help chip away at the Concordia lead. But for every run the Jackets mustered, the hot-shooting and deep bench play of the Tornados would respond.
After building a 19 point lead with 7:22 remaining in the contest, The Tornados kept converting on offense while holding Howard Payne to 33% shooting to collect the ASC victory.
Howard Payne will now head to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, February 11th for the second of back-to-back road contests.
