SEGUIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's tennis team dropped non-conference matches to Texas Lutheran University 7-2 and Hendrix College 8-1 this weekend on the road.
After a home match versus LeTourneau on Friday, the Jackets hit the road to play Texas Lutheran Saturday evening and Hendrix College Sunday afternoon.
In a match played at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas, Howard Payne fell in a very competitive outing 7-2 to Texas Lutheran. 
Edgar Torres highlighted the match for the Jackets defeating TLU's Ryan Beene 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 1-0 (11-9) in number one single play.
Torres also partnered with 
Gabe Benitez in number one double action defeating TLU's Eric Beckenbach and Connor Dunmore 8-3 for the Jackets' other team point.

On Sunday afternoon, the Jackets took on Hendrix College in a neutral site match played at Texas Lutheran in Seguin, Texas. Torres and Benitez would pick up another number one doubles victory this time defeating Karthik Garimella and Ian McVinney of Hendrix 8-3.
Benitez also play solid in number three singles falling 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-4) to Kristian Lenser of Hendrix.
