Lady Jackets Drop DH at #3 ETBU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MARSHALL, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball nearly outhit #3 East Texas Baptist in game one of a double header Friday evening. The Lady Jackets fell 8-1 in game one and 9-1 in game two.

In game one, it was a 2-1 ball game after a top of the fifth when a Kodi Glosson single to right center scored Kailey Cargill who had pitch ran for Gabrielle Roque. At that point the Lady Jackets were outhitting the Tigers 5-2 in the game.

ETBU scored two runs on two hits in the fifth and four runs on four hits in the sixth to secure the game 8-1.

Sabrina Ochoa led HPU going 2-for-3 at the plate in the game along with four other Lady Jackets recording hits. Tonya Thompson picked up the loss (1-4) allowing eight runs on eight hits in six innings of action.

In game two, ETBU jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage after three innings. The Lady Jackets got on the scoreboard in the fourth on a Roque single to center field and an error by the center fielder allowed Tiffany Hinkleman to score.

Taylor Rushing, Tiffany Hinkleman, Gabrielle Roque and Kyra Chapa each recorded a hit in the game for Howard Payne. 

Madison Witherwax (1-4) went the distance for HPU allowing nine runs on 13 hits and striking out one.
