ABILENE, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's tennis team fell 9-0 to Hardin-Simmons University and McMurry University this weekend in conference action.
Friday, the Yellow Jackets took on the Cowboys of Hardin-Simmons. Despite the 9-0 loss there were some highlights.
Gabe Benitez lost in three sets to Michael Boyd of HSU 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (14-12) in number three singles play. The number one and two doubles teams for Howard Payne were also competitive falling 8-3 and 8-2 respectively.

On Saturday, the Jackets played across town at McMurry University in another ASC match-up. Benitez again narrowly fell in number three singles play this time to Travis Gough of MCM 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3).
HPU's number one doubles team of

Gabe Benitez also played tough falling 8-6 to Carlos Martinez and Andrew Hallowell of McMurry.

Howard Payne is now 0-11 overall and 0-2 in American Southwest Conference action. The Jackets will play next on Friday, April 7th at home versus Concordia University Texas at 11:00 am and on Saturday April 8th at 10:30 am versus Mary Hardin-Baylor.
