ALPINE, Texas - Howard Payne University's
Khyce Randall scored a game high 37 points in a 100-74 loss to LeTourneau University in the opening round of the 2018 American Southwest Conference men's basketball tournament Thursday evening.
Khyce Randall moved to 7th all-time in scoring at Howard Payne with his 37 point performance finishing his career as a Yellow Jacket with 1,706 career points.Â
Howard Payne, shooting 35.3% from the field, struggled to keep up with the LeTourneau offense who connected on 50% of its shots in the game.Â
After jumping out to an early lead in the game, LeTourneau held a 51-36 advantage at the break hitting 8 of 16 from beyond the arc in the first period.
The Yellow Jackets were able to cut the LeTourneau lead to nine early in the second half, 55-46 on a
Thomas Bingham free-throw with 15:23 left in the game. LeTourneau would pull away from that point for the 100-74 final.
Khyce Randall added a game high 10 rebounds to his game high 37 points. He would go 16 of 17 from the free-throw line. Shad Cole followed with 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the field.
LeTourneau was led by Alec Colhoff with 23 points on 5 of 8 shooting from the three-point line. Nate West finished with 18 points and four assists. Justin Moore added 11 points.
Howard Payne's season ends at 11-15 overall and LeTourneau stands at 23-3 on the year and will advance to the second round of the ASC tournament.
