TYLER, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's tennis team fell 5-0 to East Texas Baptist University in the opening round of the 2018 American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament.

After Howard Payne fell in the number one and two doubles, HPU's Rosie Cadena and Cheyanne Lovelady nearly pulled out the victory in number three doubles losing in a tie breaker 9-8 (7-3).

In number one doubles, Chesney Goza and Erin Blanchard fell 8-2 and in number two doubles Breanna Hunt and Erin McCleer lost 8-1.

From that point, ETBU would only need the number two and three singles points to finish the match 5-0 and advance to the second round. All other singles matches would remain unfinished.

The Lady Jackets end the year at 6-14 overall and ETBU stands at 6-9 on the year.

The loss capped a season that saw the Lady Jackets in the conference tournament for the second straight year.
