BROWNWOOD, Texas- Howard Payne University's Lady Jacket soccer team fell short in their season opener to Wayland Baptist University earlier this afternoon at Gordon Wood Stadium.

After a slow start for the Lady Jackets picked up the pace with opportunities to score in the second period. A goal by Wayland in the 72nd minute ended up being the deciding goal for the match.

Wayland Baptist started the game racking up five shots in the first half, ending the game with a total of nine over all shots. The Lady Jackets had four shots, two on goal.

Lady Jacket Jada Austin led the team in shots with two and one on goal. While in the 48 min of the match, Austin was able to run the ball up the close center to take a suspenseful shot on goal barely missing the goal resulting in the ball bouncing off the crossbar.

Goalkeeper Delaney Castor recorded a total of three saves throughout the game, allowing just the one goal.

Howard Pane is now 0-1-0 on the season Wayland stands at 3-0-1 overall. The Lady Jackets will hit the road this Saturday September, 8th for a match against the University Of Dallas in Irving, Texas at 7:00 P.M.
