BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's basketball team could not match 14 three-point buckets by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in a 106-67 conference loss Thursday evening.
Mary Hardin-Baylor hit 14 of 21 three-pointers and out rebounded Howard Payne 51-33 in the game. The Yellow Jackets made 37.1% of their shots while the Cru hit 54.2% of their shots on the night.
The game remained close throughout most of the first half but UMHB would put together a run to close out the period leading 51-28 at the halftime break.
UMHB would outscore Howard Payne 55-39 in the second period to post the 106-67 final.
Shadd Cole led HPU with 15 points and six rebounds.
Javaris Jones finished with 11 points hitting 3 of 7 three-pointers.
Colton Otts scored 10 and grabbed a team high eight rebounds off the bench.
UMHB was led by Brian Long with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Demarius Cress had 16 points and Sam Moore added 15.
Howard Payne is now 3-16 overall and 1-9 in American Southwest Conference action. UMHB stands at 15-4 overall and 6-4 in league play. The Jackets will take on Concordia University Texas on Saturday at 3:00 pm in the Brownwood Coliseum.
