BELTON, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's basketball team ended its season with an 87-59 loss to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon.
Shooting 40% from the field and hitting five three-pointers in the first half, the Yellow Jackets played solid overall and would trail Mary Hardin-Baylor 33-31 at the halftime break.
UMHB used 55% shooting in the second half to pull away from Howard Payne. The Cru also took 22 more free-throws in the game than the Jackets. 18 of 28 (64.3%) for UMHB and 4 of 6 (66.7%) for HPU.
Colton Otts led HPU with 12 points on 5 of 9 shooting.
Timothy Aguero followed with 11 points and four assists.
Shadd Cole added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
UMHB was led by Sam Moore with 23 points followed by Brian Long with 20 points.
Howard Payne finished the season 4-21 overall and 2-14 in American Southwest Conference action. Mary Hardin-Baylor stands at 20-5 overall and 11-5 in league play.
