BROWNWOOD- The Howard Payne University softball team split their double header against Louisiana College 1-6 and 7-1 earlier this afternoon at Lady Jacket Field.

The Lady Jackets fell short in game one 6-1 after allowing the Wildcats to score three runs on three errors in the top of the third inning. 

Lady Jacket Alexis Sullivan was able to put HPU on the board in the bottom of the 6th inning after a Reagan Noriega single to left center field.

Aurora Luera, Tonya Thompson and Noriega each recorded a hit for the Lady Jackets. Tia Campos recorded the loss, earning three strikeouts. Gabrielle Roque threw in the top of the fifth inning to end the game for the Lady Jackets. 

In game two, the Lady Jackets earned the 7-1 win over Louisiana collage, out hitting the Wildcats 13-5. 

Aurora Luera started the Lady Jackets off with their first run in the bottom of the 1st inning off of a sac bunt from Alexis Sullivan. 

Louisiana College was able to bring one run in during the top of the 3rd inning to make it a 2-1 HPU ball game.

A Luera single to right field in the bottom of the 4th inning brought in Kayla Anderson. Then Alexias Sullivan singled up the middle to bring home Tonya Thompson for a run. Maddison Love and Ragen Noriega go on to score two more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, making the final score 7-1 Howard Payne.

Kayla Anderson, Haley Slater, Ragen Noriega, Emily Martinez, Kayla Hill, Alexis Sullivan, Tonya Thompson earned a hit for HPU. Aurora Luera led the team with three total hits in the game. Audrey Simpson recorded the win for HPU allowing just one run on five hits while going the distance. She also earning four strikeouts. 

The Lady Jackets are now 5-4 overall and 3-2 in American Southwest Conference play, while Louisiana College is now 1-1 in conference play and 5-1 overall. The Lady Jackets will end their three game series against Louisiana College at 11 A.M. on Saturday at Lady Jacket Field.
