BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team fell to Hardin-Simmons University 75-61 after holding a 10-point second half lead Saturday afternoon in conference action.
27 turnovers for Howard Payne in the game caught up to the team in the second half with Hardin-Simmons converting them to 32 points on the night. Hardin-Simmons also held the lead in points in the paint 42-26.
After both teams played to a 32-32 halftime score, the Yellow Jackets built a 10-point advantage to start the second half. A
Colton Otts layup gave the Jackets a 53-43 lead with 12:53 left in the game.Â
From that point Hardin-Simmons put together an 11-0 run and went on to built a double-digit lead and the eventual 75-61 final.Â
Shadd Cole led HPU with 16 points and five rebounds.
Timothy Aguero finished with 12 points, six assists and three steals.
Thomas Bingham grabbed a game high eight rebounds.
HSU was led by Joe Hoeup wit 19 points and Jalen Terry with 11 points.
Howard Payne is now 4-19 overall and 2-12 in American Southwest Conference action. Hardin-Simmons stands at 14-10 and 10-6 in league play. The Jackets will be on the road next week at Concordia Texas on Thursday at 7:30 pm and at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday at 3:00 pm.Â
