Lady Jackets Drop Opener With Comets

RICHARDSON, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team went on the road earlier this today to take on UT Dallas at the UTD softball field to begin their weekend. HPU fell in game one 13-6 and game two of the doubleheader was delayed due to lighting problems at the field.

UT Dallas started game one off hot scoring five runs off of four hits in the bottom of the first inning.

Kayla Hill was able to put HPU on the board in the top of the third inning with a homerun to center field, bringing her to four total on the season. Lady Jacket Alexis Sullivan ended the inning with a three-run homerun to right center, making the score 4-5.

Kayla hill was able to hit her second homerun of the game this time a two-run shot to left field at the top of the fourth inning. Kayla Hill currently leads the Lady Jackets with five homeruns on the season.

UTD was able to score five more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, while the Lady Jackets stayed at six runs, ending the game 13-6.

Audrey Simpson was first in the circle for HPU seeing four batters when Hannah Stuart entered the first inning. Hannah Stuart recorded the loss for HPU, pitching three innings and earning three strike outs. Gabrielle Roque relieved Hannah Stuart in the bottom of the fourth pitching for three innings, earning one strikeout.

HPU fell short in hits 15-9, with Lady Jacket Aurora Luera, Tonya Thompson, Alexis Sullivan, Emily Martinez, and Kayla Hill all recording hits.

Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was suspended in the middle of the third inning due to lights going out at the field. HPU was leading 2-1.

Howard Payne is now 6-10 overall and 3-7 in American Southwest Conference play, while UT Dallas is now 7-8 overall and 5-7 in conference play. The Lady Jackets will resume game two of the series tomorrow at 11 AM with game three to follow.
