BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team split their double header against Sul Ross State University today, losing game one 10-0 in sixth and winning game two 7-1.
Game One

Tia Campos started in the circle for game one, pitching four innings and allowing five hits. The pitching staff struggle in the game walking six batters and giving up ten hits.
Despite remaining scoreless in the game, the Lady Jackets had opportunities loading in the bottom of the first inning, resulting in three left on base after a fly out to left field.
The Lobos scored five runs in the top of the third, mostly off of three walked batters. Sul Ross continued to score on errors from HPU, ending the game 10-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Game Two
Campos started in the circle again in game two, recording the 7-1 win, allowing only one run on six hits in the complete game.
Tonya Thompson put HPU on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, reaching on a single up the middle and scoring on a wild pitch.
The Lady Jackets were able to score six more runs in the bottom of the fifth off of hits from
Aurora Luera,
Emily Martinez,
Kayla Anderson, and
Kayla Hill. Most of HPU's runs in the fifth came with two outs.Â
Howard Payne is now 10-13 overall and 5-9 in American Southwest Conference play, while the SRSU is now 9-14 overall. The Lady Jackets hit the road this Friday, March 29th to take on LeTourneau University in Longview for a weekend series starting with a double header at 12 P.M. and 2 P.M.
