LONGVIEW, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team committed four errors leading to 14-2 conference loss for the Lady Jackets at LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon.
After splitting the double header with LeTourneau on Friday, Howard Payne struggle in the field defensively with four fielding errors ending in the 14-2 conference loss. HPU committed three errors in an 11-run second inning for LeTourneau proving to be the difference in the game.
HPU scored both of its run in the fourth, first on an infield single by
Haley Slater then later with the bases loaded
Melinda Mendoza grounding out to score
Kayla Hill.
Six different Lady Jackets recorded hits. Gabby Roque got the loss in the start going 1.1 innings allowing six runs on three hits.
Tia Campos threw 1.2 innings allowing eight runs on eight hits and
Hannah Stuart went the final inning striking out one.
Howard Payne is now 11-15 overall and 7-11 in conference action. LeTourneau stands at 17-10 overall and 14-7 in league play. the Lady Jackets will play next on April 5-6 at home versus Hardin-Simmons University.
