BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's tennis team defeated Sul Ross State University 8-1 in conference action Sunday afternoon at the Nabers Tennis Center.

The Lady Jackets started the day by picking up all three doubles points 8-4, 8-6 and 8-3. The HPU number one doubles team of Erin Blanchard and Erin McCleer improved their season record to 8-6 with the win.

HPU would only drop the number two singles point on the afternoon. All other points in singles play came in straight sets except the number five spot.

Lacey Eagan won 7-6, 3-6, 6-2 in the number five spot in the ladder for her first singles victory of the year. Brittany Cortez and Kaylee Todd also picked up their first wins of the year in number four and six singles play.

The Lady Jackets will finish out their season on Thursday at the University of Texas at Dallas at 3:00 pm.
