AUSTIN, Texas - The Howard Payne University softball team played their last regular season double header earlier this afternoon against Concordia University Texas, winning game one 6-4 and game two 3-2.
Game One
Lady Jacket
Tia Campos pitched the whole game for HPU allowing three runs on nine hits and only allowing one walked batter in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Concordia Tornados were able to get on the board first, bringing one run in the bottom of the first inning on a SAC fly.
HPU was able to get on the board in the top of the fifth inning off of double to left center from
Emily Martinez bringing in
Amy Perez for the score. The Lady Jackets were able to score four more runs off of hits from
Aurora Luera,
Kayla Anderson, and
Tonya Thompson.
The Lady Jackets won the game 6-4, leading in hits 14-6.
Game Two
Junior
Hannah Stuart pitched the whole game for the Lady Jackets, only allowing two runs on four hits.
The Tornados scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning off a fielding error from the shortstop, making the score 1-0 going into the fifth.
The Lady Jackets were able to get two runs in at the top of the sixth inning off of a double to right center from
Kayla Anderson and a Sac fly from
Emily Martinez.
Kayla Hill hit a double down the left line in the top of the seventh bringing in
Aurora Luera for a run, ending the game 3-2.
Howard Payne is now 17-20 overall and 13-13 in American Southwest Conference play. While the Concordia Tornados are now 14-25 overall and 9-17 in ASC play. The Lady Jackets will continue their series against Concordia tomorrow, April 27th with a single game starting at 1:00 PM.
