Box Score 2 BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Howard Payne University women's volleyball team lost two conference matches to Sul Ross State 3-1 and 3-0 Tuesday afternoon in the Brownwood Coliseum.
The afternoon was highlighted by
Mya Ross who had 21 kills and 30 digs for the Lady Jackets in the double header.
Game One
Howard Payne dropped three straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-10, and 25-18.
The Lady Jackets got off to a rough start in the first set, falling behind 13-4. Howard Payne went on a 10-2 run to get within one making the score 15-14. HPU was unable to keep the spark alive and ultimately dropped the set 25-19.
Mya Ross led the Lady Jackets with nine kills and nine digs.
Riley Britain had 14 assists followed by
Kaitlyn Elsten with 11.
Chloe Pryor had 10 digs.
Annika Canaba led the Lobos with 11 kills and 16 assists. Mia Bella Ruiz had 14 digs.
Game Two
Howard Payne dropped the first set 25-14 but came out strong in the second set. The Lady Jackets led the second set 8-4 before the Lobos went on a run to tie up the set. HPU hit a rough patch falling behind 22-16. The Lady Jackets went on a 10-2 run to win the set 26-24.
The Lady Jackets lost the third set 25-15 and the fourth set 25-18 making the final score of the match 3-1.
Mya Ross had 12 kills for the Lady Jackets followed by
Mitsue Rodriguez with 11.
Riley Britain had 18 assists followed by
Kaitlyn Elsten with 16.
Mya Ross had a game high 21 digs.
Annika Canaba had 15 kills for the lobos. Vivian Moya had 20 assists and Tatyana Colon had 20 digs.
Howard Payne falls to 2-6 overall and 0-6 in the American Southwest Conference. Sul Ross improves to 2-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play. The Lady Jackets will take on Jarvis Christian College for the second time this season on Thursday March 4th at 3 pm in Hawkins, Texas.
