BROWNWOOD, Texas- The Howard Payne University Men's Soccer team claimed their first win of the season in an overtime thriller over Texas College at Citizen National Bank Soccer Field. The final score was 3-2.
Zach Moreno and
Alexander Paz both scored goals for the Yellow Jackets. Goal Keeper
Andrew Hackney recorded seven saves.
Zach Moreno scored the first goal of the afternoon in the 12th minute of the match. Texas College scored in the 36th minute to tie the game going into the second period.
Alexander Paz scored on an assist from
Daniel Hernandez to put the Jackets back on top in the 79th minute of the match. Texas college answered in the 82nd minute to make the score 2-2.
The score was 2-2 at the end of regulation.
Alexander Paz scored the game-winning goal on an assist from
Daniel Hernandez in the 8th minute of overtime to give HPU their first win of the season.
Andrew Hackney played all 98 minutes in the goal for Howard Payne, recorded seven saves, and allowed two goals.
Howard Payne improves to 1-1 on the season. They will play Jarvis Christian College on Monday, Sept. 6th, at Citizens National Bank Field in Brownwood, Texas.
