BROWNWOOD Texas- The Howard Payne University Lady Jacket softball team fell 8-2 in the series finale against the Belhaven University Blazers on Tuesday at Lady Jacket Field.

HPU scored the first run of the game from an RBI single to center field from Tori Muro. 

HPU committed two errors in the second inning which allowed the Blazers to collect four runs. 

Belhaven scored two additional runs in the 4th inning, and two in the fifth adding to the lead 8-1. 

HPU was able score one run in the 5th with a RBI single from Kiley Persons, advancing Ayleen Castillo to home making it a 8-2 ball game. 

The Lady Jackets were led by Tori Muro and Madison Forrester each going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Heather Wineman recorded the loss in the start for HPU allowing eight runs on 12 hits and striking out three in 4.2 innings of work. Bree Cason threw the final 2.1 innings allowing just one hit and striking out three.

HPU softball is now 2-16 overall and 0-12 in conference play. Belhaven advances to 15-1 and 8-1 in conference. 

HPU softball will play their next series against the University of Dallas on Thursday, March 17th in Brownwood, Texas at The Lady Jacket Park, a double-header starting at 1:00 pm.
