BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's basketball team defeated the University of the Ozarks 118-115 in a triple-overtime thriller Thursday evening in conference action.
HPU's
Jarod Johnson has a stellar game finishing with a career-high 29 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists. Johnson was 8 of 9 from the free-throw line.
Armonie Ramey had a huge game for the Jackets as well with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.
Miles Koehler finished with 19 points,
Harold Myart had 18 points and six rebounds,
Myles Brown had 13 points, and
Deshon Shorter added 11 points, nine rebounds, and three assists.
Myles Brown gave the Yellow Jackets a 118-115 lead in the third overtime with a free-throw with 1.3 seconds remaining. Ozarks' full-court heave missed and the Jackets claimed the victory. It was only the eighth triple-overtime game in American Southwest Conference history.
The Yellow Jackets committed just 14 turnovers in the three-overtime game while forcing the Eagles to commit 24.
Ozarks was led by Tylan Jackson with 29 points and 12 rebounds followed by Josh Ukpe with 26 points and 11 rebounds.
Howard Payne is now 3-15 overall and 1-9 in American Southwest Conference play. Ozarks stands at 7-10 overall and 2-8 in league action. The Jackets will play next on Saturday at home versus the University of Texas at Dallas at 3:00 pm.
