Jackets Fall 115-99 To Tigers

BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's basketball team shot over 50% from the field in a 115-99 loss to East Texas Baptist University Thursday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.

Howard Payne finished the game shooting 51.4% from the field but it was East Texas Baptist's 64.5% shooting that was the difference in the game.

Offensively, the Yellow Jackets had one of their best games of the season and only committing 11 turnovers. HPU forced 13 ETBU turnovers with the Tigers winning the rebounding battle 38-31.

Trailing 63-46 at the half, HPU battled back to within 10 points, 77-67 midway through the second half. 

HPU's Armonie Ramey was a big spark for the Jackets in the second half posting 17 points, a game-high nine rebounds, five assists, and four steals on the night.

Jarod Johnson added a team-high 23 points for the Jackets. Miles Koehler had 18 points on 3 of 5 three-point shooting. Harold Myart had 12 points and Myles Brown finished with 11 points.

ETBU was led by Aaron Gregg with 25 points and five assists. Ryan Elzy added 19 points.

Howard Payne is now 2-13 overall and 0-7 in American Southwest Conference play. ETBU stands at 11-2 on the year and 5-1 in league action. The Jackets will take on LeTourneau University on Saturday at 3:00 pm in the Brownwood Coliseum.
