SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's tennis team competed at the ITA Regionals this past weekend hosted by Trinity University located in San Antonio, Texas.

Singles

Draw A
Christian Fernandez and Nicolas Gates competed in Draw A Singles of the ITA Regionals. Fernandez lost round one 1-6, 2-6 and the second round 3-6, 0-6 with Nicolas Gates losing round one 2-6, 4-6 and losing the second 2-6, 2-6.
Draw B
Landon Ferree won round one of the Draw B Singles 6-0, 6-2 going on to win the second round 6-2, 7-6, losing round three 1-6, 0-6. Caleb Lambert won the first round 6-1, 6-3 before losing round two 6-7, 1-6.
Draw C
Jonathan Villarreal lost in round one in Draw C Singles 6-0, 6-1 before winning round two in the consolation bracket 6-7, 7-5, 10-6. With a bye the next round, Villarreal would defeat HPU teammate Michael Woodard 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the finals where he lost 7-6, 2-6, 3-10. Michael Woodard lost round one 3-6, 6-3, 4-10, wining his round two consolation match up 6-4, 3-6, 10-7. Woodard would receive a bye before falling to HPU teammate Jonathan Villarreal.
Draw D
Riley Harker won round one in Draw D Singles 6-1, 6-2, losing the second round 5-7, 6-4, 7-10. Nick Crawford lost round one 1-6, 5-7, losing round two in the consolation bracket 3-6, 2-6.

Doubles

Draw A
Caleb Lambert and Christian Fernandez competed in Draw A Doubles, losing round one 8-7 (7-4).
Draw B
Landon Ferree and Nicolas Gates led the Yellow Jackets in Draw B Doubles winning round one 8-1, losing the second round 5-8. Robert Aguero and Frederick Cannon lost round one 5-8 with Jonathan Villarreal and Michael Woodard losing round one 6-8.

The Yellow Jackets wrapped up fall play and will be back in action in the spring of 2024.
