IRVING, Texas – The Howard Payne men's basketball team overcame a 22-point deficit in route to a 94-91 win over the University of Dallas Sunday, November 13
th.
After a 19-0 run from UDallas to start the 2
nd half, HPU found themselves down 66-44 with 14:02 remaining.
The Yellow Jackets were able to fight back and gain their first lead of the night 76-75 behind 50 bench points.
Hudson Johnson posted 16 second half points along with 14 from
Jarod Johnson. HPU did not look back as they never trailed again winning 94-91.
The Yellow Jackets outrebounded UDallas 52-39 gaining the edge in 2
nd chance points as well. Howard Payne shot a season-high 48% from three led by
Hudson Johnson's six three pointers and
Ben Phillip's four.
HPU was led by
Hudson Johnson with 22 points and five rebounds along with an all-around performance from
Jarod Johnson who posted 18 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.
Ben Phillip followed behind putting up 16 points along with 12 from
Chase Glasper.
Armonie Ramey rounded out the five double-digit scorers for the Yellow Jackets, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds.
UDallas was led by forward Jack Doyle who recorded a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double. Following behind was Zach Olmsted with 21 points and Johnny Olmsted with 16.
The Yellow Jackets are now 2-1 overall and will look to make it three wins in a row as they travel to Georgetown, Texas to take on Southwestern University Tuesday, November 14
th with tip-off set for 7:30 PM.
