BROWNWOOD, Texas --The Howard Payne University volleyball team grabbed a two-set lead, but couldn't hold on and lost 3-2 (25-18, 25-15, 23-25, 22-25, 18-20) to the Concordia (TX) Tornados Thursday at home at the Brownwood Coliseum on senior night.
The loss dropped Howard Payne's record to 11-13 overall and 6-10 in ASC action.
The Lady Jackets were led by a double-double from Brylee Awbrey, who registered 10 kills and 15 digs on the day. Fabianna Bennett also added 11 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Riley Brittain chipped in for with 17 digs to go with five blocks from Brooke O'Neal.

SET 1 | The Lady Jackets took control of the set-one lead at 6-5 and never trailed to win 25-18. Howard Payne led by eight points at 21-13 before finishing off the set.
SET 2 | Howard Payne carried momentum from a set-one win by earning a 25-15 victory in set number two. The Lady Jackets scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. Howard Payne opened up as much as an 11 point lead at 20-9 before closing out the set.
SET 3 | Concordia (TX) avoided an early loss with a set-three win to make it a 2-1 match. The Lady Jackets dropped a back-and-forth battle, losing 25-23 in a set that featured nine lead changes and was tied 13 times. Neither team had a lead of more than four points along the way.
SET 4 | Howard Payne then dropped their second straight set 25-22 to brind the match level at two sets apiece. The Lady Jackets fell in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured three lead changes and was tied seven times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way.
SET 5 | Howard Payne jumped out to a two sets to none lead, but dropped the next three sets on their way to losing the match. The Lady Jackets fell in a back-and-forth set five, losing in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied 15 times. Neither team led by more than two points in the set.
This concludes the regular season for the Lady Jackets as they finish with a record of 11-13, 6-10 ASC. They will travel to Belton, Texas for the ASC Tournament next week. As the rest of the regular season wraps up Saturday, November 4th, official brackets will be released.
