BROWNWOOD, Texas - The Howard Payne University women's basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 59-54 non-conference victory over Austin College Monday evening in the Brownwood Coliseum.
The Lady Jackets used an 18-9 second quarter to gain a 29-23 halftime advantage and a lead that they would not give up the rest of the game. HPU built as much as a 14 point lead at the start of the 4th but the Roos rallied late to make it a close game.
As a team, HPU was 12 of 30 from the three-point line led by
Taysie Trejo with 18 points powered behind 4 of 9 shooting from behind the arc. HPU would hold the Roos to just 2 of 15 shooting from long range and out rebound Austin College 45-40 in the game.

Trynadee Greenwell added 10 points and five rebounds.
Asia Mitchell and
Kiara Green each grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Green had four assists and
Jazlyn Braithwaite added another five assists.
Austin College was led by Brooklyn Matthews and Naomi O'Neil with 10 points each.
The win improves Howard Payne to 3-0 to start the season already matching their win total from the 2022-23 season. AC falls to 1-3 overall. Howard Payne will play next on Wed., Nov. 22nd versus Southwestern University at home. It will be a 1:00 pm start time.
