BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Howard Payne University men's basketball team dropped their first conference game of the 2023-24 season versus UT Dallas 93-74 on Thursday, November 30
th at the Brownwood Coliseum.
After a hard-fought back and forth first half versus the Comets, HPU would go into the break trailing 41-34 led by
Jarod Johnson with 13 first half points.
UT Dallas would take over the second half as they came alive from the three-point line to win the game 93-74.
The Comets outrebounded Howard Payne 36-34 including six offensive rebounds that led to 17 second chance points. UT Dallas also won the turnover battle forcing 19 HPU turnovers, scoring 15 points.
The Yellow Jackets shot 49.2% from the field on 59 attempts but only knocked down two three-pointers at a 12.5% clip. UT Dallas finished 37-76 from the field for a 48.7% rate along with raking in 11 treys.
HPU was led by 16 points from
Hudson Johnson along with 13 from
Jarod Johnson who dished out six assists as well.
Armonie Ramey rounded out the three double-digit scorers for the Yellow Jackets with 13 of his own.
Leading UT Dallas was Donovan Souter with 25 points along with Nick Donnelly who scored 21 points.
Howard Payne will look to bounce back on Saturday, December 2
nd as they take on the Ozarks at the Brownwood Coliseum with tip-off set for 3:00 PM.
