ALPINE, Texas - The Howard Payne University men's basketball team fell 81-79 on a three-point buzzer beater to Sul Ross State University Saturday afternoon in the Yellow Jackets' season finale.
After
Armonie Ramey layup gave the Yellow Jackets a one point lead, 79-78, with :09 second left in the game, Sul Ross hit a three-pointer with two seconds left to gain a 81-79 lead. The Jackets with no timeouts last second shot was no good and the Lobos claimed the win.
Ramey led the Jackets with 18 points and five assists.
Jarod Johnson followed with 14 points, five assists, and three steals.
Deshon Shorter added 13 points and nine rebounds.
Harold Myart had 11 points and
Miles Koehler had 10 points.
The Yellow Jackets battled back from a 14 point deficit early in the second half. HPU would gain its first lead in the second half with seven minutes left on a three-pointer by
Jarod Johnson.
Sul Ross was led by Julian Paredes with 21 points and Caelyb Kerley with 14 points.
The Yellow Jackets finish the season 3-22 overall and 1-17 in American Southwest Conference play. Sul Ross State stands at 7-18 overall and 4-14 in league action.
