HPU Falls Late To Centenary (LA) 3-2

SHREVEPORT, Louisiana. -- The Howard Payne University men's soccer team fell 3-2 on the road against Centenary (La.) Saturday (Sept. 23) at Mayo Field.

The loss dropped Howard Payne's record to 1-6-0 overall.

How it Happened

Howard Payne broke the 0-0 tie when Ethan Mauldin recorded his first goal of the season in the 14th minute.

The Gents evened the game on a goal from Adam Bihler in the 25th minute, assisted by Michael Smith.

Howard Payne then busted up the 1-1 draw on Emmanuel Nshimiyimana's 49th-minute goal, his fourth of the season. Wilondja Ebula assisted the goal.

The Gents tied the match at 2-2 with a 62nd-minute goal from Rene Escobar, assisted by Zack Bowers.

Centenary (La.) broke the 2-2 tie on Dylan Clark's goal in the 74th minute. The goal ended the 3-2 match.

Emmanuel Nshimiyimana and Taylor Hefner led HPU with four shots a piece.

Game Notes

  • Howard Payne received two yellow cards.
  • Brandon Padilla totaled four saves for the Yellow Jackets out of seven total Gents shots.
  • Howard Payne totaled nine shots on goal

The Yellow Jackets will look to bounce back on the road at UT Dallas Thursday, September 28 in what will be the first conference match of the year for HPU.
