BROWNWOOD, TX --The Howard Payne University volleyball team lost to the UT Dallas Comets in four sets (21-25, 25-23, 17-25, 21-25) Saturday at home at the Brownwood Coliseum.
The loss dropped Howard Payne's record to 6-5 overall and 1-3 in ASC action.
Makenzie Weddel finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Lady Jackets offense. Defensively, HPU had two players reach double figures in digs as Kassidy Johnson had 13 and Riley Brittain had 10.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Jackets found themselves in an early deficit, dropping the first set 25-21. Howard Payne trailed by as many as six points as UT Dallas grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was tied up just once before the Comets took control.
SET 2 | Howard Payne responded to pick up a 25-23 victory in set two, evening the match at one set apiece. The Lady Jackets took the set with the help of a solid performance on the attacking side. Howard Payne put together a .395 attack percentage with 18 kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands four times, the Lady Jackets took control for good at 23-22 and rode that advantage to victory. The Howard Payne offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | UT Dallas went ahead 2-1 in the match after defeating the Lady Jackets in set three. HPU lost a tough set 25-17. Howard Payne trailed by as many as 12 points as UT Dallas grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up three times before the Comets took over the lead.
SET 4 | Howard Payne then dropped the fourth set 25-21 to finish off the match. The Lady Jackets fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before losing the match.
The Lady Jackets are back in action Tuesday, September 26th as they travel to Sul Ross State and look to climb up in the ASC rankings.Â
