SPOKANE, Washington – The Howard Payne University women's soccer team beat Whitworth University 1-0 in game two of their four-day road trip to Washington.
With no goals scored in the first half, the Lady Jackets were able to score a winning goal in the 80
th minute from Freshman
Kiana Chastain on an assist from
Kate Recendez. The HPU defense stood strong in the final minutes to complete a shutout with
Emily Williamson and
Chandler Sorrell splitting time at goalie, finishing with five total saves.
The Lady Jackets took a total of seven shots with five being on target. Leading them in shots was senior
Alexandria Barnett. Freshman
Kiana Chastain was the only Lady Jacket to connect on a shot, scoring in the 80
th minute on an assist from
Kate Recendez.
In the goal for HPU during the first half was
Emily Williamson, who recorded three saves. During the second half
Chandler Sorrell totaled two saves.
The Lady Jackets get their first win of the season making them 1-1-0. HPU will be at home Friday, September 8
th where they will take on Schreiner University at 7:00 PM.
